My Friends in the Sky
Ty Stromberg
Color Pencil, 11/1/17
"My Friends in the Sky" is a colored pencil project I've recently finished. It shows the constellations Sagittarius, Scorpio, and Cassiopiea in the sky. I first outlined what I deemed fitting for the looks of Cassiopiea, Scorpio, and Sagittarius ( all with blue). I then drew an outline of trees (in black) and water (in white). Next was the constellations themselves. I places the stars (in orange) within these celestial beings to imitate the actual stars. Finally I used multiple layers of blue and purple in the night outside of "my friends," but left a few white spots to represent other stars. The water was colored in using multiple shades of blue, and the trees were colored in black.
When implementing elements, I used space to form ducks in the background and on the water. I used the principle of repetition when working with the constellations, lines were drawn to connect the stars. They were all designed similarly as well.
Fun Fact: Constellations were pointed out by Ancient Greeks to explain stories about gods, demigods, and other heroes. Cassiopiea is a tale of a vain queen who bragged that she was more beautiful than Aphrodite (The goddess of love and beauty). She was punished for her hubris, and the gods sent a sea monster to terrorize her kingdom.

Daydream

Colored Pencil '17
This is my Noun Dream Project. It is called 'Daydream'. I draw it in the medium of colored pencils. I had to choose four nouns to put in my drawing: a person, a place, an animal and a thing. Mermaids at the beginning were not really dreamy creatures ,but more like monsters: that's why in a dream, they announce bad news. Roses, at the contrary, means the coming of joy in your life. Butterflies means a change is happening, and a beach symbolizes a meeting of your two states of mind.
I reunited these elements because I like each one of them individually and I thought they would look great together. I also liked the fact that all the meanings make sense together. I started by drawing the shapes of my main elements with a light yellow pencil. Then I started coloring the mermaid, butterfly, sea and beach. And I used a white pencil to blend it together. I then repeated the same actions with the tree, rose and sky.
I used the element of line to draw my elements like the sea and sky.
My principle is unity: I used it so that there is a feeling of harmony in my drawing.
Fun fact: Not everybody dreams the same way: about 12% of the population dreams in black and white only.

Color pencil project, Flower Corpse by Alaska, my medium is color pencil 2017. First I started by using the lightest shade the going darker. For my element I used color. Color is light reflected off objects. Color has three main characteristics: hue or its name (red, green, blue, etc.), value (how light or dark it is), and intensity (how bright or dull it is). For my principle I used movement. Movement is the path the viewer’s eye takes through the artwork, often to focal areas. Such movement can be directed along lines edges, shape and color within the artwork. There is a whole culture of people practicing what is called lucid dreaming.

My second project is a surrealism dream drawing, "My Dream", that I drew at the age of 14. I used the medium of Colored pencil. I used the element of color to show the variety of books and the shading in the apple. I used the principle of proportion to show the size difference between the girl, the apple, and the library. I first used a light colored color pencil to outline all of my objects. I then began to add detail and depth by using darker colors. A fun fact about dreams is that your mind is more active while you are dreaming than when you're awake.

My surreal dream project, "The Graveyard", is in the medium of color pencil. I drew this picture in my Art I class at the age of 15. I started by outlining the figures that I drew with the lightest color pencil. Then I used colored pencils to color them in but I used four colors of tan starting with the lightest color and finishing with the darkest color and making sure you couldn’t see any of the paper through the colored pencil. I used the element of line to outline the four nouns I chose for my dream project. I used the principle of proportion throughout the facial features of the figures. Fun fact about colored pencils...There are two main categories that color-pencils fit under, wax based and non-waxed base.

I, Sam drew City Battle in 2017 with color pencil. First I drew on other paper how I wanted it to look then I took a light color and made the outlines, after that was done I colored In the picture. I used the element of line to create the shape of the city. Fun fact about color pencils is that a single tree can produce up to 300,000 color pencils.

My creation "dancing in space" is a drawing with one thing, one person, one place and one animal. I use the color element to intensify my four choices. With different proportions, I draw my things with unrealistic sizes.

For my painting project, I started with the pointillism then to the presentism then on to the abstracted next the realism. For my element I used value. Value refers to dark and light. Paintings and drawings are made up of dark, light, and middle value areas. The difference between values is called value contrast. For my principle I used Proportion, Proportion is the feeling of unity created when all parts (sizes, amounts, or number) relate well with each other. When drawing the human figure, proportion can refer to the size of the head compared to the rest of the body.

Skull Style, 2017
My third project is a styles painting, "Styles Skull" that I did at the age of 14. I used the medium of acrylic. I used the element of Texture to show the smoothness of the skull, and I used the principle of Variety to show the differences in each style portion of the skull. I started my project by sketching the skull and marking out the features. I then began to paint the four different styles, Realism, Pointillism, Impressionism, and Abstract. I used a base layer of a cream colored paint, then went back over in darker shades of the same color to emphasize the details of the skulls' features. A fun fact about paint is that it was the Greek philosopher, Plato, who discovered that you could mix two different paint colors to create a third color.
