2020 Events & Awards
LHS Art Club has been very active this year! To start out the year we shared with the community about our Art Educational Tour in June to Australia and New Zealand. We then geared up with our new shirts and sweatshirts to represent! Officers prepare for the year and choose our Fall Artist in Spotlight and studio projects. Every year we submit to local Art Shows and host our Annual Night of the Arts, have monthly studio days, and a few fundraisers for trips and events. September we had a guest Artist that makes his own fishing tackle. He taught the kids how to paint crank baits and spinner blades. In October we helped out with a pumpkin painting and carving event for our local bank and put on an Art Club PEP Rally. November we hosted Parents Night with homemade knoephla soup and buns as we painted bowls for the Empty Bowl Project. We also had an AWESOME time at the UND Art Department. We attended classes in Art History, Sculpture, Ceramics, and Metal Smithing. In December Art Club creates a giving tree each year and this year we made our school-themed Christmas ornaments to give away to donors as well as give to parents for Christmas gifts. We also handed out candy canes to students T-Rex Santa style.
We have also created a paper quilled heart with parents during Parent Teacher Conferences. Our fundraisers included selling butterbraids, Christmas wreaths, and Date-Night Raffle tickets. We are saving up to take an educational tour to Chicago in the summer of 2021. In class students have been creating a backdrop for graduation with monuments of Larimore. This month we will be incorporating chemistry and art as we make flavored rock candy!
Interrupted by the World Pandemic of COVID-19 the following events were canceled, but planned. We would have completed the year of Studio Days with glazing pots for our Mother’s Day gifts with succulents. Our last field trip would have been in April to the NDSU Art Department, students would have taken classes in Photography, Painting and Graphic Design. We would have ended the trip with a visit to the Plains Art Museum where Salvador Dali’s exhibition was displayed.
Our 2nd Annual National Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony became available for public viewing via Youtube on May 6th, and would have been followed by a reception for members and family. Larimore would have hosted our 10th Annual Night of the Arts on May 12th. Seniors were honored and students’ art were judged for awards. A youtube video of NOTA replaced the event. The images show some of the events Art Club participated in and the Art seniors at a social distance photo shoot. Mrs. Worden states “I wanted to do something special for them because they missed the end of their senior year, prom, Night of the Arts, and graduation isn’t going to be the same. They wore their prom dresses and suits as well as graduation gowns to show the Art they created. Some decorated hats with inspirational quotes and designs. This is where I presented to them awards, senior gifts, and National Art Honor Society Cords they would have received at our annual Night of the Arts. I also made polar bear themed surgical face masks for students to wear to keep themselves safe when they go out and for graduation. I wanted to capture an image in time for these kids, encompassing what they missed out on, but also how resilient and proud I am of them for doing it with grace.”
